Multi-year research on low-input lawns found that grass species and time since establishment shaped weed cover. An irrigation trial also found different responses in tall fescue and perennial ryegrass. Knowing what you grow is a useful starting point for interpreting advice.

Mowing research supports responding to canopy growth, while irrigation research supports responding to soil moisture. A short record of cut height, rainfall, watering, and feeding gives you context for those decisions.
